Paula Modersohn-Becker
Sitting at my desk the other day I found myself staring at this postcard I'd blue-tacked up on my studio wall. I'd found it in mum's papers after she died. I wasn't surprised to find it there...she loved children..I couldn't help wondering why the hands were so red and a little bit swollen looking...I didn't know the artist and so I took it down and had a look. This sad little image was painted by German artist Paula Modersohn-Becker.
She only had a very short life dying after child-birth at the age of 31 but during that time produced what are considered to be the "most important representatives of early Expressionism."

Oscar Munoz - The Corner House Manchester
I became aware of Oscar Munoz work a couple of years ago about the same time that I saw my first Christian Boltanski installations at Tate London. Both artists work have a melancholy sadness which I always find compelling and yet at the same time a little unnerving. Not surprisingly both artists draw on personal experience exploring themes of loss and memory.
Oscar Munoz: Biografias is currently running until 27th of March at Cornerhouse in Manchester.

Hans- Peter Feldmann "Shadow Play'
Researching a new project in which I plan to use shadows I came across Hans-Peter Feldmann's work....I love this simple technology.
Christian Boltanski - Shadows
My favourite Christian Boltanski - I can't help but be drawn to his work I always find it compelling although often very sad. These make me think of Mexican skeleton puppets made for The Day of the Dead.
